The Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN)
The Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN) is an intersectional, multifaith, intergenerational, multi-lingual, multiracial, multiethnic immigrant-led network of over 400 immigrant leaders, allies, and immigrant-serving organizations. WAISN convenes and cultivates a statewide transnational solidarity coalition to protect and advance the power and rights of all immigrant and refugee communities by investing in base building and growing the leadership of forced migrants.
Our strategy centers the voices of impacted communities while organizing, educating, and mobilizing people across the state to uphold and defend the rights and dignity of all immigrants and refugees.
As a queer and transgender immigrant-found and led nonprofit, we are building a strong, connected, immigrant-led justice movement to dismantle oppressive systems and ensure a life of abundance for all immigrants.
The WAISN Resource Finder
The WAISN Resource Finder, a community-driven database of vetted resources for immigrant and refugee communities in Washington State, goes beyond simply listing available services. It bridges the gap between resource providers and community members by educating providers on cultural sensitivities, language needs, and the specific requirements of undocumented individuals.
Unlike other resource databases in the state, the WAISN Resource Finder actively vets resources to ensure their accessibility to undocumented immigrants, providing detailed information about ID requirements, language support, and potential limitations based on immigration status. This approach fosters trust within the community, knowing that the listed resources are tailored to their needs and accessible regardless of their immigration status.
The Resource Finder serves as an invaluable tool for the WAISN Deportation Defense hotline, the largest and only hotline dedicated to assisting immigrants in Washington State, and is widely utilized by community organizations across the state to connect their immigrant and refugee clients with the resources they need.
While the Resource Finder is community-driven and constantly updated, it remains a work in progress, reflecting the imperfect nature of resource availability. Nevertheless, it stands as a comprehensive and accessible platform, specifically designed to empower immigrant and refugee communities in Washington State.
The WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline
The WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline is the only statewide hotline dedicated to serving all Washingtonians regardless of immigration status since 2017. We have been building connections and trust with community members across the state, and we are the one-stop shop for connecting Washington immigrants to more than 1,400 resources, extending from food banks to homeless shelters and legal referrals. The hotline serves as an added accountability measure to the way immigration enforcement shows up in our communities. We are best known for documenting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) activity and any violations of the U.S. Constitutional Rights or human rights abuses towards all Washingtonians by these agencies.
